Whilst in Athens for the Greek Independence Day celebrations, I took the opportunity to visit the Hellenic Air Force Museum, located at Tatoi Dekelia Air Base in the north of the city.
Normally only open on Saturdays and Sundays, it also opens on National Holidays, so this was an ideal chance to visit.
Tatoi Dekelia is also a base for the Hellenic Air Training command but, as is usual in Greece, I was under strict instructions not to photograph anything other than exhibits at the museum.
The museum itself has a large external area which contains a terrific variety of aircraft previously operated by the Greek Air Force, as well as a single hangar containing more aircraft, including a couple of airworthy items, namely the North American T-6 Harvard and Supermarine Spitfire which had taken part in the Independence Day flypast earlier that day.
The exhibits are packed quite close together, so getting clear unobstructed images is quite a challenge!!
That said, it was great to be able to photographic so many different types – some of which were in special coulour schemes.
